In 1968 we
purchased a Victory class 21 ft sloop in a
slip at Santa Barbara Harbor. We named it
Niord, after the Norse God of the Winds.
Our slip had a
boat bath, a vinyl tub with floatation at
the top and a drawstring at the back. When
the boat was in the slip and bath the
drawstring was pulled up and chlorine was
poured in the tub to kill marine growth. The
harbor and our boat/slip were fouled by the
1969 oil spill. Union Oil replaced the bath
and mooring lines and had the boat cleaned
in drydock.
