Pacific Electric Railway 1947-49

Some cars had smoking and non-smoking sections, separated by a partition such as that in this photo.
The conductor circulated among the passengers to collect fares.  He twisted the rod in the upper right center to show the fare on the dial on the bulkheads and then pulled once on the rope below the rod to register the fare.  The center rope was connected to a bell to signal the motorman.
